Founder Felicia Kelly brings a wealth of experience to the table having launched her career with the prestigious Shanachie Records in the 1980’s working on sales and marketing on releases spanning from Jamaican Reggae Icons Bunny Wailer, Judy Mowatt, Culture and Mutabaruka to African reggae pioneers Lucky Dube and Alpha Blondy. The Shanachie roster introduced many African artists to the United States and included artists such as the Father of Afrobeat, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, King Sunny Ade, King Sunny Okosun and the Mahlathini and the Maholtella Queens to name a few.
From Shanachie, she moved to Koch Distribution (Now eOne Distribution) working out of the retail hub of Minneapolis moving to Chicago and ultimately landing as the West Coast Regional Sales Manager in Los Angeles. The Koch roster included labels ranging from Shanachie, Razor & Tie, BarNone, Sugar Hill Records and Ani Difranco’s Righteous Babe Records. Included in the eclectic stable of labels included high-end audiophile classical labels such as Chandos to cutting edge experimental pioneers such as John Zorn’s Tzadik and Knitting Factory.
Her career expanded into radio as the Retail Managing editor at the now-defunzct magazine the album network. She served as National Sales Director for the PARAS group that was distributed by Ryko Distribution. This position lead to her working as a Product Manager/ Marketing Director for Chris Blackwell’s boutique label Palm Pictures where she was at the helm of projects such as Gigi’s self titled album, Baaba Maal’s Mi Yeenii, 1 Giant Leap and Sounds Eclectic (KCRW’s compilation by Nic Harcourt).
Following Palm Pictures, she went to work my major distribution company WEA (Warner Brothers, Elektra, and Atlantic Records) where she was the West and Midwest Regional Sales and Marketing Manager handling catalog for 8 years.
